I just received my Speed Bag Bible and DVD in today's mail - WOW! I am IMPRESSED. I have read up to the all-important Chapter 3, but now I have to get back to work :(.
I got the swivel two days ago and have it up and ready. The new swivel Alan suggested is superior to the Everlast/chain link swivel I've had because the new ball-hook seems to provide much more fluid motion - already I can keep the bag going much longer. I will delve into the book and try to correct any bad habits.
Count me as Another who Highly Recommends the acquisition of this book/dvd set!! It seems VERY COMPREHENSIVE and VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT. I look forward to learning the techniques and discussing on the forum. Thanks, Alan.

Hey mike, what ball hook swivel are you using ?
Sorry I didn't get right back to you, go: it's this one which Alan suggested and I already swear by it: http://www.fitness-equipment.com/acatalog/Fitness_Equipment_Speed_bag_Hanging_Systems_30.htm l
Third photo down - Triple Chrome Plated Precision Ball Swivel all Steel Construction.
As suggested I ordered the Short Hook and I purchased the extra ball for the time that will come to replace the little ball inside - God Willing!!
I don't know how to use the USER CP function on the forum so I can access my prior posts. I'm new and trying to figure it out - but I'm also working and --- reading the SBB, which is No Reader's Digest Version!! I've got things bouncing around in my head I never thought I would!!
Thanks mike.. just as went to order one... they wanted $77.19 to ship to the Uk.. they can go *"^!.... even dick turpin wore a mask  im gutted, as i so would like a metal ball hook.. you CANT even get a plastic ball hook in the Uk let alone a good metal one

Maybe I could order it and ship it to you for much less? (cost) I do recommend, as Alan advised me, you get the 'shorter hook' (which I did) and go ahead and get the replacement ball (it's another $6 or so) because having that other ball could avoid replacement issues/shipping for it later. It was also weird they charged me tax which is not usual on the internet purchases I conduct.
It comes in a simple box with no directions, but it's... very well constructed. I'm quite pleased with it (putting it mildly, I'm thrilled with it). Please advise if I could help you with obtaining one because I will. That shipping rate is ridiculous - it's a very small box.

I have called the local post office to inquire about their Flat Rate Shipping to UK.
I am looking at the receipt I received from the vendor. Here would be your cost:
Swivel: $22.99
Extra Ball: $6.90
NC Sales Tax: $2.90
Shipping: $8.60
TOTAL = $41.19
Then I could ship it to you @ $12.95 - takes 6-10 days
So your total cost would be: $54.14
I will purchase it and you can send me a check upon your receipt of the swivel if you like. Please advise.
I can fax the current receipt if you like. And will include the receipts/postal receipts in the box I send to you.
It's a Fine Swivel and if you would like to have one I would like to help. This is a cheaper route.
Thanks,
Mike

Will Do - Good Note.
I recently sent a box of Soups, Salsas and Sauces to a friend in Calgary, Alberta. It had to go through customs and he told me he thought they might have confiscated it for themselves (they require I declared exactly what was in the box). It took... I think it was 16 days... but he did get it. There are different forms you have to fill out at the Post Office for International.
But that was FOOD and it made it through. This should go easier: SPEED BAG SWIVEL. Nobody in their Right Mind, I figure, would alter the progress of this necessary device. :)
I ship stuff out to friends all the time, but your advice here will be utilized and is Duly Noted. Thanks.

Hi Mike. I looked at Alan's evaluation (plus your opinnion) of the new swivel and it looked awesome. Do you know if the mounting holes line up with the Everlast chain-link (which I have just started out with)? Thanks for your input. Steve

whats with the 4 dvd set? is it alot more combos and stuff than the bible set?
Yes.
The 4-DVD set was a way to focus on certain areas of bag punching AND add the Advanced chapter information. Be aware that the DVD's have a different technique order than the book. The book, in chapter four, covers the "seven basic techniques", that include the four punches from the front (FSP, FCP, FDP, F-Roll) and the three outward Elbow Strikes (O-SES), (O-DES), (O-TES). I did that in the book for several reasons. First, all are from the front (easier than linking front to back) and it gets the elbows involved early. But that was a lousy order for videotaping. So I ordered the techniques differently on the DVD's.
DVD-1 covers equipment and seven basic punching techiques, 4 from front, 3 from behind.
DVD-2: a review of 1. then All 12 Elbow Strikes.
DVD-3: a review of 1,2. Then all six Side Techniques and mixing all front back & sides.
DVD-4: review 1,2,3. Then advanced topics in Chapter 10.
The series DVD's have a bit more explanation, (imagine that..) a few more combo's, longer slo motion segments and a bit more hitting to music. DVD 4 actually has a ending with me hitting to two or three songs, because I had about 20 minutes to kill. I actually shot a "Punch & Ride" segment (how to add an upright cycle and create 4 workouts) to add several years later, but never re-edited the master S-VHS tape with it.
I normally suggest that IF someone has the single comprehensive training DVD (two hours, 24 techniques), than they might just get DVD-4 for the advanced information. The single comprehensive DVD information is the same as DVD-1,2,3 but much quicker explanations. For example in the single DVD I cover all 12 elbow strikes in about 45 minutes, and have almost two hours on DVD-2 "Elbow strikes". If you see the 45 minutes, then I doubt that adding another two hours of mostly the same information, is going to help. Unless, of course, you just like to see me yaking about the speed bag..... I've never been short on doing that
I'm thinking that you have the single DVD already, (? right?) and would probably only need DVD-4, which I do distribute separately as a companion to the single DVD. In that case, the review on the front of DVD-4 would be covering the 24 techniques of the single DVD.
I do know that the local human shelter runs the 4-DVD series continuously in the "dog housing area" to calm them down, keep them occupied or put them to sleep. The cats just never seemed interested and they leave the TV's on animal planet. go figure. :o

Is this book better for the "recreational" way in hitting the speedbag? I want the workout and increased speed/hand eye cord. and punch the bag straight on like I would if I was hitting someone (albeit much easier). If this will help keep things fresh and interesting and still be a viable use in the way I use the speedbag I will probably purchase it. Hell I probably will regardless.

Here's my take, the following strikes in the SBB are "real world practical" for self defense :
Elbows - Accuracy and coordination with elbow strikes. Granted these aren't boxing strikes, but they certainly are Muy Thai (some kinds) and no holds barred self defense. Initially elbows feel very awkward... but with enough practice they flow easily.
Front Straight Punch - Pretty obvious..
Hook Punch - also obvious...
Kicking - there is a whole section on all kinds of kicks.
Backfist - Backfist is covered. A "show" move for sure, but I've seen this used in UFC fights (including knock outs)
Inward Double Elbow - I've seen a book before "No Holds Barred Striking" that espoused a strike that is basically the I-DES from the bible... you hit with the fist, then follow through with the elbow of the same arm. Practical? I have no idea , I read it in a book, but it seems like it might work in a real life defense situation.
Here's the other half of it... all the back of the bag/side of the bag stuff helps speed and hand eye coord. as well. Don't leave this out ... would be my advice. It makes things a lot more fun as well.
If this will help keep things fresh and interesting and still be a viable use in the way I use the speedbag I will probably purchase it. Hell I probably will regardless.
I say get it... Alan offers a basement bargain discount to forum members, I guarantee you'll like it.

what does the book offer that the 2 hour vid does not? i like the visual and concerned i would not get the techniques from the book.
Basically the Book has more detail about certain topics AND the System for writing down combinations. I wrote the book to be like sheet music under the board, with a system of writing speed bag practice combinations. AS you learn the techniques and the abbreviated symbols (like sheet music), you can read the practice combinations and reproduce the same movements over and over. This also allows YOU to write down YOUR speed bag progress and combinations, so you don't have to try and remember what you did 3 or 4 days later. Musicians/composers write down what they create on their instrument, so they can remember and reproduce it again, and so that others can reproduce it also. You don't really get that from a Video. Even when someone explains it on the video, and you watch intently, it is often hard to remember exactly what they did or how they did it many days later when the video is NOT under the board with you. And video systems have time constraints that can limit your presentation. Books do not have a time constraint and can allow a teacher to go into more detail when needed.
But - that was back in the day when portable and person video via Cell phone, tablets, wireless etc. did not exist. I suppose now someone could easily just re-watch a teaching clip over and over under the board on their phone to see and hear it again. However, that still does not allow you to write down your own combinations.
Hope that helps.

So i bought my first copy of the speed bag bible from amazon.
Mainly because i basically got it for free with points/credit But it wont be my last. I recently found out my younger cousin is interested in getting into the sport of Boxing/MMA so i think for a gift (whenever i get my speedbag gym setup complete) im going to give him my current 2-n-1 everlast standing bag, a standard heavy bag and a decent speedbag, alongside my current copy of the bible. So i have a reason to buy my next copy personally from Mr. SpeedBagKahn.
P.S. Loving the Book so far from what ive read and skimmed through.
