View Full Version : How To Platform Question

I restored an old wall platform that dates back to the late forties. I want to mount it on my ceiling but need to do it in a way that causes the least amount of damage to the ceiling but also deals with the vibration issues. Any suggestions? Pictures attached if I did it right.

Nice job with the restore.

Brass Pipe and Flanges would look really good with that drum.

Run two stained 2x4's across the ceiling & bolt to rafters, threaded flange & threaded brass pipe down to drum would look good.

You could box frame down kinda like skunks also.

I'm building one using black pipe...but your drum is nicer and has some history behind it. Mine is just in a basement and black pipe will do.

that swivel arrangement is very interesting. Can't say I've seen one like that.

Would there be a vibration problem I would need to address?

Considering the thickness of the drum, I don't think you're going to have a lot of vibration with the bag that you have in the pic. That platform was intended to be used with old school bags that are twice the size.

Ninja420's might be the best way to go, sounds like a great set up with no vibration & it would look good with your drum.

I had the center steel plate fabricated locally and bolted the swivel to it. There wasn't enough wood left in the center of board to screw a swivel directly to the board, so this is what I came up with. Wife said it was a little overkill. Probably right, but I liked the way it came out. Hope I have as much fun using it as I had restoring it. Thanks again for all the input.

I like it. Looks great on that board.
