Now hold up for just a second. Before we get to far ahead of ourselves. We need to think..
haha, was thinking the same thing when typing that last reply.
I mean come on 8 bags at one time with 8 speedbaggers is going to sound like "Thunder or an Earth Quake" So attaching to any structure is WAY out of the question in my eyes. I have 8 platforms That are attached to a steal building and OMG it makes a awesome sound. BUT to anyone else they might be calling the fire department. So the question i have is HOW MANY BAGS do we need. 8 baggers at a time seems like a easy number but like Tim is saying making a speedbag cage that continues for 8 on each side would be Fin awesone.
I know the noise will be considerable, but I think 25 people huddled around 1 or 2 or 3 platforms, the boredom will set in quickly. I think we need a 3:1 ratio if possible, so 25 attendees = 8 bags. We could use plastic ball hooks to keep the noise down. Beyond that, we need to set expectations with the facility. This is a fitness/musical expo there will be MUSIC and DRUMMING (non-amplified). If they can't handle it, they are out of the running.
Also - remember the size room we will need is most likely in use for BUSINESS MEETINGS - I expect there to be minimal BUSINESS MEETINGS ON Fri/Sat/Sun - because noone in the business world likes to meet on those days !!!! This is in our favor for two reasons: more rooms available, and possibly we can negotiate a cheaper rate. Believe me, their rooms are probably full Monday - Thursday, but probably not so much for Fri, Sat, Sun.
I think we need to find the place and then find out WHO is going to help us: EVERLAST, RingSide, Title, ect. If we make the budget too high lots of people wont be able to make it. Lets face it most of us just normal hard working people that LOVE to speedbag.
Agreed, but we need to have a rough idea of scope. i.e. is it 10 people and 2 platforms, or 25 people and 8 platforms , or somewhere in between.
Agree 100% that we need to keep this relatively affordable.
I know im no Baller$$$ I dont mind helping with money by no means at all im just saying it will start to be a pretty penny if we get 16 speedbag platforms, all the wood we need to build, Stars, Airfare, Hotel, Food and Expences as well as a few other things. Thats why im thinking we need HELP!!!! So all of us need to shout out to sponsarships that will help us put this together. Im going to bust my ass to try and get everlast to help us with this. I talked to My guy at everlast when i came back from FOREINGER show and told him LOOK this speedbag thing is getting bigger and bigger day after day. I know rock stars that hit the bag, Superstars that hit the bag, Playmates that hit the bag and many others that tear it up. Theres gotta be some way we can put a RING in there bell to make them OPEN there eyes to see how big and succesful this could be.
Absolutely we need corporate sponsorship. Some ideas:
1. Sell web advertising in exchange for $$$ or equipment. Both speedbagforum and speedbagcentral are "Front page hits" when searching on "speed bag". Granted there is much thought to be put into this, but it's reasonable to expect we could get some sizable $$$$ through web ads
2. Hang banners at the expo (on the cage/wall, on the platforms) - "Speed Bag Annual Gathering 1010 sponsored by Everlast" (or title boxing, or ringside). I guarantee this will be the EVENT that speed bag people talk about for years to come. Get plenty of high quality video with the sponsors banners clearly visible up on youtube of the event. Any vendor should easily recognize the advertising value of this.
3. Conference regisration fees - I think it's safe to say, anyone attending is likely going to have to put up a little money up front, unless we really hit a home run with sponsors. THat said, Next year's gathering in 2011 will be an easier sell to vendors, as there will be video proof of the advertising value of such an expo.
4. Equipment demos - Vendors supply $$$ up front and demo equipment that we would hang at the event and post up video. For example, the advertising potential is huge.
lake shitty i mean city.
Haha.
I do believe we all need to start making phone calls, sending e mails and reaching out to anyone and everyone we can to help put this AWESOME event together.
I've got requests in to some conference centers to try and pin down rough pricing. That will give us a guesstimate of how much sponsorship we need to pursue. Let's be realistic, if the costs are high, we may need multiple sponsors. If the cost are low we may only need one.
