Equipment concerns - How many platforms and how do we mount them?

(That would be a pretty hot punch in the summertime). Now that it's a full trailer, that would work.
AK! What a great idea! Fill up a truck with speed bags.... now it would ultimately get crowded and all that...but.... what about one of 2 of these ideas...
    1. A ballroom allowing us, (if possible) to drive a truck into the ballroom....still the whole crowded thing happens.......or

    2. Instead of having to use a truck, we simply build a wall....and attach it, to firm it up, to the existing wall, and we hang platforms to that wall....
    I think that would work!
We could have 2 walls in a ballroom.... each 30-40 feet long... that would be about 10 platforms spaced 3-4 feet apart....
    what do ya think?
We could build 5 8x8 walls and connect them, and then hang the bags!
This way everyone has space and it more well spaced than attaching many bags to a cage like Tim's.....
    Soooo..... makeshift wall!!!! ??????
Of course have a couple freestanding platforms.....
    Woo Hoo!!

You may be joking, but there are facilities in vegas that are "vehicle accessible". Probably not for a truck though

I don't think attaching anything to the permanent structure is going to be an option, in fact, it's probably expressely forbidden in whatever contract we end up with.

But imagine the cage done as a two sided wall. So we'd have 8 foot 4x4s every 5 feet , about 3 feet apart.

(This is an OVERHEAD view, each X is a speed bag station).

So if you think of my current cage, as it sits in the garage right , now, like this:

The beauty of the wall is you could continue it as long as needed.

We could have 2 walls in a ballroom.... each 30-40 feet long... that would be about 10 platforms spaced 3-4 feet apart....

Yes, that would work, the only constraints are : How many speed bags do we need (i.e. how many attendees) and how much $$$$ do we have

Each 5 foot section of the wall would cost approx:

    8 foot 4x4 = $17 each x 4 = $68
    10 foot 6x2 (cut in half) = $15 each x 5 - $75
1/2 inch hardware (bolts and nuts) - so it could be contrustced before hand of site = $35

So $178 per 5 foot section , which should support 4 speed bags.

Those Everlast adjustable platforms can be had for $100 at Sports Authority

    4 Everlast adjustable platforms x $100 = $400

So total cost is $578 per 5 foot section.

We could eliminate cost by makeing our own platforms, but that would lose adjustability. Plus we might be able to get wholesale price or something from everlast ... anyone have a Tax ID and can register with them as a vendor ???? Another thought is that Ruffo's gym has 8 or more of these, maybe we can borrow them ?????? The only cost then is shipping them to the location.

Building a wall and attaching wall units is possible, but the logistics of that will require several people to arrive early to build it and hang the speed bag units, and will also require the speed bag units to already be there ready to be hung. I remember attending the 2001 supershow at the Sands convention center in Las Vegas where myself and tons of companies were there two days early to setup booths and setup product. that is when reality hit. UNION carpenters had to do any construction (no sawing, hammering or nailing). Any transport of materials from the truck to the floor showroom, had to be unloaded by the teamster dock workers. Electricity,....Union. For my booth, which had NO construction I had to pay the standard union fares for transporting my materials to my space on the floor of the Sands Convention Center. This is one of several reasongs why Chicago lost the Nationial Sporting Goods Convention. The largest sporting goods show in world is now in Essen, Germany.

That was a huge international convention, so the scale is much different, and maybe things have changed, or will be different in a much smaller convention or casino setting, but someone will have to arrive a few days early to build the wall and attach the units. Whom ever organizes that will have to check with the facility to see what is allowed. The long speed bag wall in Skunks gym is an awesome idea, but creating that in a convention center or casino location may require whomever organizes that to check with local regulations. The facility will know what the requirements are.

but driving a Speed Bag equipped Truck into the showroom is a pretty cool idea that allows for off-site construction. Rent a truck, attach three long running horizontal 2x4's to attach the wall unit vertical mounts. Tjhat may only require a teamster driver to bring it into the building.

(...I'm not trying to be negative about the idea of building a speed bag wall, but I've dealt with the reality of doing such things in public locations. At a Dallas Sporting goods show I attended years ago, they allowed "assembly" of pre-made items (screwdrivers, wrenches etc), but no "construction" requiring carpentry equipment (saws, nailing etc.) My freestanding floor unit was attached to wooden plywood sheets that I had pre-cut and pre-drilled weeks before so I could "assemble" it there.)

All good points. Clearly you've "been there, done that", and that is valuable information to have.

With a target of 25 attendees (walk-ins will be minimal, I'm guessing),
I'm definitely accounting for several hours, up to a 1 day, of setup time by one or more people (preferably 2-3).

I expect no electrical needs beyond an extension cord for the stereo system.

The speed bag cage or wall can be setup by one person, with a 1/2" ratchet and 1/2" crescent wrench for the main supports, and a 3/8" ratchet and 3/8" crescent wrench for the platforms (assuming the platforms may need a screwdriver or a few other things, if they are still in the box.)

Assuming all platforms are of the same type, all we need is one, in order to pre-construct all the mounting points. Maybe a vendor drop ships the units to the venue. Or we get them beforehand and transport them. After the convention we put the unit (Disassembled) into storage for next year

Believe it or not, I actually designed the speed bag cage to be transportable in a Ford Expedition and setup by one man in minimal time Call it great foresight or incredible naiviete , but I envisioned the cage hitting the road at some point in it's lifetime

Also - the above may dictate the need to simply rent gym space. I can't imagine a private gym having much union requirements (although again, I've not ever planned anything like this).

Looks like your cage could have four speed bag locations: 1 inside and 3 outside. ??

If we double it up, there could be 6 on the outside (might be tight) and 1 on the inside, OR , add a full wall to the open side and you could have 8 , 2 on each side. (see middle picture above)

Right now the cross bars are 5' long. If that is too tight for platforms mounted side by side, it would be trivial to go to 6' or 8' cross bars, which would give enough room. 6' would be best for portability. That would give a full 3' for each platform.
