This topic may have already made the rounds, but after doing a search, I could find very little information on the topic. I was curious how many of you use ear plugs while hitting the speed bag? Has anyone measured the decibel level?

Hearing protection is a BIG deal. I've had to think about this a lot because of 1) I'm a motorcycle rider, and 2) I ran a metal shop for several years.

I was surprised to learn that many activities that seem harmless (an hour long motorcycle trip, for example) probably does damage over time.

I decided after my first twenty minutes that I would wear my iPod (with earbuds) or my earplugs. I have some custom made earplugs from Etymotic -- I'd be happy to give you more info if you'd like it...

I have not worn ear plugs while punching but other people in the house have. :o

Speed bagging is one of the quietest things I do!
My hearing still rocks and I love loud stuff!
I am very lucky.
What?
I am very lucky?
What? Did you say something?
What's that?
Hello?
Can you hear me?
I haven't lost my hearing but I am slowly losing my mind!
In my humble opinion, I don't think the volume of bagging is that big a deal.
Cutting the lawn, weed wacking, the movie theater, dogs barking, car horns, vacuums, city living, the gym, etc.. are all louder....
I wouldn't sweat it too much...
BAG ON LOUD AND PROUD!

I found some Etymotic ear plugs on Amazon. For the price, it looks like a pretty good investment. Thanks for the tip.

Which ones did you get, Bruce? You will love them --

For what it's worth, for you audiophiles out there, Etymotic makes one of the best set of premium earbuds for your iPod or whatever -- the ER-4's... superb sound. You will hear things in your music collection that you never heard before -- fingers on fretboards, etc... they are well worth the investment. And the company is incredible -- an old-school American company that takes great care of you.

No affiliation, just a very satisfied customer....

Good one Brian :)

The sound doesn't bother me much but I think I lost some of my hearing when I was younger.

The only people who should wear eaplugs are the people who want you to stop hitting.
