THIS IS MY IDEA:
Build a very heavy constructed arcade style stand to support a 26”x 26” oval speed bag plat form above and curved video projected screen in front of the viewer. Above the platform there will be a monitor that shows the player from a side view during game play.
On one side of the player there would be a small web cam style camera that would be programmed to follow the plat form’s height and also programmed to properly zoom to fit the screen. Having a floor mat with sensors in it to tell the computer how the player is standing so it can zoom the camera correctly would do this.
On the opposite side of the player would be a green screen. As the player is being captured on video, the game automatically fills in the background.
The bag should have a sensor inside to tell the computer how hard the bag was hit. The bag should be made of a material that can have separate images displayed on it for a 3-d effect.
The plat form can have sensors all around it to tell the computer which direction the bag was hit.
The plat form will have a mechanical ball socket (attached to a ram style hoist coming from the top) controlled by the computer. This socket will control the plat form’s height according to the height of the user. It will also continuously be able change the angle of the of the plat form according to the status of the game being played by a few degrees from multiple sides of the plat form. When the hoist is fully extended it will be at the lowest height therefore the weakest, and fully contracted will be the highest and strongest.
The game being played will control the projections that are displayed and the angle of the platform, though not all games need to have a change in angle necessarily.
Games could be made to simulate fighting, fast paced hitting rhythms, tennis or badminton, dance, fitness fun, copy the computer’s combinations, training modes, etc. These Gaming units would probably be found in: sports bars, family restaurants, lounges, arcades, movie theaters, lobbies, carnivals or fairs.
The types of games available to play would be suitable for the type of venue that purchased them.
The gaming unit would have an Internet connection. The owner would use this connection to subscribe to the games that they want available to their customers. High score videos from the overhead monitor would be sent to possibly a You Tube channel or a competitive gaming website.

ALL FEED BACK IS WELCOME, BUT HATERS WILL BE BLOCKED OR REMOVED FROM DISCUSSION TOPIC.

There are a couple of coin op speed bag machines on the market (I'm not talking about the Zamperla Super Boxeo machines and their clones made famous, or infamous, in the movie "Urban Cowboy") at this time. What you are talking about is really interesting. However to make such machines successful they have to be extremely durable. If it has to be adjusted and repaired too frequently it's doomed from a commercial standpoint. Arcade games take a horredous beating in general, and the strength testers especially. I'm speaking from thirty years experience in the outdoor amusement industry. If you can lick the shock issues that I can see in the concept, you might have something here.

Above are some that are out already.

Matter of fact I redid my RBT (www.roboticboxingtrainer.com) so that the arms quickly move up/down and side to side, so now as you stand behind the dummy you can hit the boxer in front of the boxing dummy by the pneumatic push buttons and RBT arm movement to "punch" at the boxer. I'm going to add legs to it too so it could kick, which will be activated by pneumatic left and right foot pedal behind the dummy. I think it would make a great arcade "fighter" as long as the boxer just wore the full faced head gear.

A speed bag based video game has been in my "idea vault" for a long time. Years ago I worked out a computer game system of single and multiple key strokes on a keyboard to accomodate about 20 of the techniques, a speed key to increase or decrease speed and a sound file system to accurately replicate the sounds each combination would make. ( all the possible combinations could be calculated and a sound file created for each one...) the player would work through various skill levels and rhythmic challenges until he "master" the keyboard (bag), and could qualify to enter the "ultimate speed bag challenge" against several programmed players. (male and female bag experts). the play could choose any of several views (1st person, to side, behind, above board etc.) Bag size and air pressure would all be variable and programmable. Of course it was fantasy only and I needed a graphic programmer and code writer to create it, neither of which I knew personally, or had money to hire.

Then I wondered about the X-box or Sony Play station formats. I don't know how you could modify the joysticks intefaces of those games to accomodate all the variety on the bag.

Of course, now the Wii Rules and that could be a cool activity. I'm not sure how that interface could be programmed but I could write the sound files for it ( I can pretty much replicate every possible combination sound in my head and write it on paper in my own system of notation. An audio tech could probably reproduce it pretty easily)

I think it could be huge, and I think it will happen. I just hope it isn't a dumbed down "boxing only version" without a punch drumming sound track.

I really like the idea....I am hesitant however simply for the reason that there are already boxing video games for the wii etc therefore I am not sure how marketable such a game would be. I mean, would we all buy it...absolutely, but for the general populus it would need more than just bagging in my opinion. I'd love to see what you might come up with though, good luck man! :D<)B:D

speedbagstud, I'm trying to picture in my head about what you said regarding a sensors in a bag. A bag has to have movement to allow the punching hand to pass through. Does your bag pivot as it is hit and then resets itself in the vertical position ready for the next hit? You have interesting ideas and maybe an arcade manufacturer can give inputs to them, and, they can also steal your ideas.

speedbag, I wonder how the new laser instrument can be modified to work with the speed bag as you stated. Seems a foot control too would be nice to give it that extra sparkle of sound pitch.

Punch drumming game - keep it on beat. You could have some sort of display that reads out the BPM and whether or not the person is on beat. Would be a top notch training tool as well.

There's no haters on this web site.... we don't allow it :)

@ speedbag :yeah man i know what you mean. I am just an oil patch truck driver so i have niether the tools nor the know how to collaborate this idea all together. just an idea. if someone steals it from me i hope i get to play it one day. I bought your book by the way too. its a little confusing at first but very insightful.
