hi guys,

im pretty new to speed bagging and havent had a go on 1 since i was quite young, im now 19 and wanting to get into boxing for fitness and find the speedbag facinating. you guys have some incredible skill and a wealth of knowlege on the speedbag. ive visited this forum quite abit recently for information and videos on speedbagging and now ive decided to look at buying myself a setup.

i am looking to buy my own setup this coming easter holiday. i have a UK supplier sorted for the speed bag (everlast Professional 9x6) which is £35 but am finding it very difficult to find a good platform for a reasonable price. i have looked into the I-Box and can ship that from america for around £150 inc import tax which is quite expensive but well worth it imo. was wondering if you think its abit over kill for a beginner? i know im just starting out, but would prefer a nice stand that i wont outgrow, than spend 50 quid on some junk that wont last 2 minutes. i also want a platform that looks reasonably good as it will be going in my room :)

cud anyone advise a good platform i could get in the UK? or do u think i should go for the I-Box

The Ibox is nice - but I would rather buy something local for the $$ or pounds.

From one beginner to another: Buy the best platform you can afford....personally, I like overkill. Myself, I'm having to build my own due to lack of funds and wall space but I'm still overkilling the heck out of it using 1/4steel, giant timbers and bolts that will keep a bridge together.

I don't think you'll regret getting the I-Box and if you do, you can always sell it.

Welcome to the forums!

If only we could predict the future the answers would be much easier. If you knew for sure that you will stick with the speedbag for years to come then the I-box would be a fantastic investment. If you aren't so sure then you would be better off purchasing one of the "value" kits like one jaguiler posted. There are several modifications you can make to the cheaper platforms to bring them to a higher grade. Search these forums for said modifications.

Much like what Billymack said above, if you're going to stick with it, it's worth buying nicer equipment. If you're not sure, then go with the cheaper setup. You can always move one of them outdoors if you end up with two platforms.

I very much enjoy punching the old bag outside when the weather is nice.

ive found a brilliant website with LOADS! of platforms, any on there that you guys think would be a good platform for me. id prefer an adjustable and one that would last me a while before id want to upgrade if i really got into speedbagging?

Those are some interesting platforms. I would be weary of the style with a single mounting arm, I don't think they will ever have the stability of the platforms with 2 mounting arms/brackets.

Especially since you are buying with looks in mind, you don't want to rig the thing up with extra wood, sand and all manner of straps, bells, or whistles to keep the thing stable do ya?

yer its pretty nice, i had my eye on that one :). will have to hope i get paid enough by easter to buy it now, otherwise it might be an econemy platform with a sand bag for now lol

I would suggest avoiding any unit with a single vertical pole. If possible, choose a unit with TWO vertical wall struts. They are more stable.
