Narragansett Platform frame - $50 - Elmhurst NY

You'll need to add your own wooden drum, but wow, wish I was a New Yorker right about now !

The price is fantastically right for someone who can pick it up. I hope someone from the forum can get it for their own speed bag arsenal. This is the first one I've seen for sale. It's a piece of history that can be turned into a usable platform.

that thing is solid, the whole set up with the original drum is 320 lbs! according to that nmc catalog. If i didnt have a lot of bs going on now, i might have grabbed it.

HA HA!! I'm an idiot!!! I emailed some friends in NY to see if they're close to this thing... This would be an AWESOME addition to the "MAN CAVE"... and for $50... bet he'd do $40 cash (come on it's Craigslist)!!!

BUT... even if a buddy could grab this for me and I send him the cash, how the heck am I gonna get this beast to Florida?!?!?!!? 320lbs... if I could get it into one of those post office boxes -- "If it fits, it ships, for one flat rate"... !!!!

sigh... it sure would be cool though...

ps--- great post Paranday and great history Dutchman!

(lets see....5.5 hour drive oneway....gas is about $4.00 a gallon and I'd need to take the truck...maybe this isn't a good idea?)

I've hauled a pair of fire hydrants in the trunk of a car -- or three of them on a trailer -- and got 27 mpg. Those weigh about 185 lbs each.

I live far from this seller, the crating charge and freight would be too high to consider.

6 hour drive from Keyport... I'm half tempted to buy that sucker and bring it to SPEED B.A.G. II

I wonder if it's still available. That would add a whole day to the trip though. Dang.

You could rub it down with srinking cream and put it in a small box and UPS. Then you would have to find a way to enlarge it again.

I mis-read the "Elmhurst"...it's in Elmhurst (the neighborhood), Queens, NYC...so it's only about 2.5 hours from me. I emailed them last week, but haven't heard back yet.

Yea, that thing had to be sold within minutes of posting. I wrote the guy immediately with a buy offer and asked for his location and he did not reply. Hope it went to someone who will use it, rather then an antique collector...

Let us hope so. What I have discovered is that there are a few sports memoribilia dealers that are taking advantage of the new interest in old school boxing equipment, especially striking bags and platforms. Really good quality bags that could be had on eBay for around $25 or so as recently as a year ago are now being listed in excess of $100. Old school platforms like the NMCo and the Spaulding one that ZaZa obtained are harder to find. Far fewer of them were sold as compared to bags, also a lot of the old gyms that they were in more than likely met the fate of the wrecking ball. Some may have been salvaged, but I'd wager they wound up in land fill or junkyard.
