Hey all,
If you haven't ascertained from the title of this thread, I won't be coming next week.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: :mad::mad:. I must have really screwed someone over in a previous life cuz karma's being a REAL BITCH! As most of you know, I have had problems in my sciatic area periodically. I posted here how the pain knocked me down for a good stretch of time. Fast forward to now and here we go again. It actually hit me the day after Memorial Day and I used up most of my vacation time going to f-ing doctors and getting x-rayed, being told "we can't find anything wrong...here's some vicodin and hydrocodone...go get high and forget about it and get some physical therapy"...well they didn't say that last part about getting high, but I was pretty drugged up; it took 2000mg of naproxen to get rid of it this time not to mention the hydrocodone and muscle relaxers..blah blah blah.
We can't figure out what is going on here. It always starts right in my sciatica, travels across my left buttcheek, around to my groin area and down my leg. When it hits, I can't stand up, or walk without crying like a baby. The tricky thing is it comes and goes so one minute I'm ok and then after I've sat down for a time or slept, BOOM! Back with a vengeance. Most of the Doctors and ER people I was seeing kept thinking it was my back. I finally went to a hip specialist today. Though the xrays showed a crack in my pelvis on the right side, (14 years ago I was plowed by a pickup truck when I was a Bike Messenger and it fractured my pelvis), and my left hip area is actully at an "unnatural " angle, there was nothing else he could find wrong. This doctor kept insisting that this was a back issue and I had to insist that the pain is in the sciatica. He finally ordered an MRI and I go Monday evening which means I have to use my last vacation day I was holding on to in the hope that I could make it to Keyport Saturday. Alas, not gonna happen. The reason I used up my vacation time is that I have not Accrued enough time for sick leave...(A@#HOLES).
Yeah I'm a bit peeved. I was so there! I can't look at the flyer without getting angry. Here's a nice kicker: This could have been taken care of when I worked for Kraft Pizza Company but they had the crappiest insurance on the planet! Everytime and MRI was ordered, insurance would deny it and feed me some cock and bull story that I wasn't in enough pain. Finally I have a half decent PPO (Or so it seems ) through Blue Cross Blue Shield and so far the procedure is scheduled for Monday. That's way further thatn I got with the Kraft(I'm sorry Nestle..they were bought out last year). So here's hoping I can finally get to the freking bottom of this nonsense. I'm sorry for my vugarity, sorry for venting and EXTREMELY sorry that I won't be attending. Denise you worked hard on the flyer and I was so looking forward to meeting you, Biff, Kerry, Toolbox, Zach, Donnie and Tim. I'm real sorry folks. ASs the Blackhawks,Bulls, Bears, and Cubs say: Maybe next year:(
The hardest part of all this? Cancelling all of my reservations and telling you all that it ain't happening this year..................
MD, I am sorry to hear about the re-occurence of your sciatica problem. I hope the doctors can pinpoint the exact cause and find a treatment that will help. It's most important that you do everything that you can to take care of yourself. Know that the entire forum is pulling for you.
Your frustration and anger are completely understandable. We all know how much you wanted to get to Keyport this year. Life's speed bumps have a way of altering our plans. Your job and health trump a trip to Keyport. Maybe it's a good thing that you were hit with this bout of sciatica now and NOT while you were at SB II. It's a lot easier dealing with health problems when you're home as opposed to being on the road.
Just remember - "There's always next year." Hang in there, Patrick, and keep us informed as to your progress.
That beer will always be waiting for you. http://www.c3vr.com/member_uploads/1_100/16/cheers2.gif Biff
I feel ya'... so sorry and totally understand your frustration (WAY more then you know... been there, done that). Take care of yourself, without our health, what do we have?
Best,
-Za

Hang in there brother! I wanna know how bad you messed up the car that hit ya!
Find a good doc and ask a Lotta questions! When they do your CT ask if the radiologist can show you as he's reading it right after the scan, sometimes they'll let you sit right there and go over your anatomy with you right there if you ask. Might help paint a better picture?
If it makes ya feel better, I found I had cancer in February. Sidelined with surgeries and chemo... sucked... had to stop running, biking and everything else... used all my time off too. I was frustrated, scared, pissed and felt like I was missing everything... BUT that's how I found this forum and got into speed bagging... a good upper body workout that didn't beat my body up. I found bagging was GREAT rehab for the body and mind! im cancer free as of last week and got the green light to get back on with life again!
I'm sticking with bagging and joined a boxing gym 2 days ago! Im gonna train and pick up an amateur fight! Im working til midnight tonight then hitting the gym at 0600!
Get yourself healthy and strong again for you and your family. You will be back to 110% in no time. I haven't met ya but its obvious you got a great mental attitude and the intestinal fortitude to overcome anything. The bag helped me focus and stay positive! Keep making vids man! I will see you at Speed Bag III Marine!!

Patrick, I'm sorry you won't be there, was looking forward to meeting you in person. I am glad that you are getting to problem solved and that you have better insurance. Your health is all you have when it comes down to it, so you gotta do what what best for you and your family, that's for sure. As TommyT put it....We'll "hang and bang" one day in the future! Until then take care and keep on bagging and posting when you're back on your feet again!

Its been 3 weeks yesterday and he is on his feet walking miles at a time again. So it was not that bad. He has no nerve pains anymore going down his legs. Just letting u know this incase one day u get surgery. hope u heal up!

Larted: Where do you live? I have a very good friend who is a radiation oncologist in Denver and he advises me about "seeding vs surgery". Survival rates are relatively the same with with seeding but far less side effects.
If you live anywhere near Denver or would consider travel check out Dr. Tippin and the Denver Prostate Seed Center (http://www.prostateseedcenter.com/team.htm)
Here he is on this page on speedbagcentral.com (http://www.speedbagcentral.com/ssp/special_people). Scroll down to see him holding my cat. This was just before he went off to Medical School.
Good luck in your treatment choice and results.

my dads brother got the seed treatment done and is cancer free a year later without all the side effects of chemo or other treatments. In fact, according to him he has never felt this good since he was 16 years old. haha. Sorry about your trials metaldad...I am going through the same thing you are. The medicines are nothing to enjoy either. I dont' know about you but feeling out of it just isn't fun. I wish you a speedy recovery, and the bag will always be there for you when you are ready. That's the great thing about this sport.

I don't know how you feel about acupuncture, MD, but my mom suffers from sciatica. She was in a lot of pain and had all the tests done, etc. Three months ago, she finally decided to see a chinese acupuncturist. By the second visit, the pain was significantly diminished. I don't think she even had to take any type of pain medication.
I actually went in with her and got to watch the whole process. It was kind of interesting watching him insert the needles and my mom didn't even flinch. I don't think she felt a thing. Then he attached a little clamps that emitted low-volt electrodes (?) or something for about 30 minutes. She had a total of about 5-6 treatments. It has taken care of the pain – for now, anyway.

Sorry to hear about the the recent diagnosis, Larry. Cancer is the one malady that I always have to watch out for... no heart or diabetes issues, though... hmm, maybe a recessive "crazy" gene...
Keeping up on the latest breakthroughs in cancer research can help to keep one positive. And staying positive is a really good thing. - Dee

So sorry to hear this Larry...stay positive and get educated...it's very treatable. My dad went throught it two years ago and his best course was external radiation treatment. Thank God, he's now cancer free for over a year. It was no walk in the park, but it works. Originally he was going to get the 'seeds' but attempts to shrink his prostrate in order to plant the seeds properly failed and we needed to take action. The steroids they gave him also reeked havoc with his body and attitude.
We also heard really good things about this new treatment method (in Canada)...might be worth looking into: http://www.hifu.ca/qualify/b2.php?c1=ppc&source=google&kw=c1g1Z&gclid=CPmX3fDFsakCFQQbKgodmCCZLg
