I've always been a fan of hiphop and djing. Fast forward to 2:10 in this video. It's a team DJ battle.

So I was thinking how cool it would be for 2 people to work a speed bag like this. First standing on either side, matching each others technique.

Example. (progressively using harder techniques)
Person A: 5-hit forward roll '' RDP ''
Person B: 5- hit forward roll '' RDP ''
A:split fist
B:split fist
etc.

Then they could link to each other instead of waiting for the other to finish and for the extra rebound, for example, for a side double punch, A starts with a RSP and B follows with a SSP. It would still be SDP but one punch from each person. It would take skill and synchronicity.

THen kinda take turns hitting from the front of the bag they way they rotated positions in the video.

I was hoping to surprise you guys with a vid of me and my wife doing this, but she has only hit the bag once. I know a couple of other folks have more than one speedbagger in their house. Maybe they could give it a try.
Well, what do you guys think? I think it would be fire!

I think it would be fun, but I don't even know anyone in my town that's into the speed bag. I can't even get guys in my boxing class to pester the gym about putting one up.

I'm sure Alan would be all over this though. Maybe his shoulder will be well enough soon that he could get one of his buds to do a tandem music video.

I got no local buds that could do it. My wife probably could to a few songs, but she is almost 8 inches shorter so the boards would never match.

Back in 2001-2002, I actually had some team hitting routines worked out on paper for a few Blue Man Group skits, (there's 3 Blue man during their comedy music skits on stage), with team linking single and double fists, tandem fist rolling etc. It wouldn't be that hard IF someone knew how to hit to music. There is a difference in knowing how to hit, and then being able to do it to music.

to be honest, I would never try and punch to hip hop, especially something like the link above. Not exactly my style, and there is no beat to hit to. If I'm gonna hit to something, I have to be able to listen to it and enjoy it. Perhaps it's just not a taste that I've acquired.

Without music, it would be pretty easy to work out a tandem or trio routine. The trick would be syncing the change overs and getting the timing right. Myself and John Baca played around with it a little, and it was fun, but we did it freestyle, without rehearsing or Coreographing a routine. I would do a four measure punch rhythm and he would do one, trading off on the bag. Didn't film it though. I'll probably be in San Diego in July - August and maybe we'll get to try it again.

Maybe I'll get Tim up in Orlando to give it a go. :o

This reminds me of a striking bag act that was making the rounds of the TV variety shows back in the early 1960's.

Alan, are you doing a speed bag thing in San Diego in July or August? That's my town, I'd love to watch and get a few pointers!

No, not a speed bag thing. I'm doing a VA thing (training conference for my job). SD has a few of my best speed bag buddies and I usually hang with them when I can. I'll let you know when it's get closer and more firm of a date. I'd love to meet you somewhere in town and introduce ya to some other great speed bag fans.
