Can I utilize my swivel !!

Dears,

I have the following swivel:

and really am not happy with it, can I utilize the covering to customize it to be a ball-hook swivel?

Does anybody know how to seperate its parts?

You should be able to look into the base of that swivel and see a bolt that is holding the "guts" of a ring with ball bearing in it. you take that bolt off and remove everything from inside and you will be left with an empty metal base housing. Then you can put a metal or plastic ball inside of that.

Saddly seems the bolt in the base is welded ... as attached in the below picture... I will see if I can figure out a way to remove the bolt, and have the base for other usage. The second image shows the swivel itself

Holy Cow! That sucks. I know what they're thinking: "We'll weld it so it never comes loose, they wont ever have to mess with this swivel"

The only problem is some people like to have the option to swap out parts, clean and grease the guts if they want to, or turn it into a ball hook swivel.

I think that a couple of drops of removable LocTite would have done the job just fine. I used a few drops super glue on my plastic ball hook once when i first got it about 14 months ago, I let the glue set for 24 hours. I have beat the hell out of that swivel, and it has NEVER failed me.

i ran into this welding problem with a ringside chain link swivel. I came to the realization that i am going to have to drill through the weld somehow.

I don't think that's been welded, more likely the threaded end has been peened, i.e. hammered flat. It's easy enough to do as the metal used is relatively soft. Should be able to drill it out, or use a Dremel cutoff disc if you can get it down there. Why this is done I can't conceive. Either method can screw up the bearing. I have this swivel and it's secured with a nylock nut, no need to do anything else.

I believe it is welded, since there is a nut (hexagonal) at the end of it ...and there is black material (the welding) on top of the nut.... like you am too confused about what they did

Your gonna have to drill out that weld. Then my guess is u would maybe have to taper drill or lathe bore the inside to hold a ball. This would all depend on the diameter/depth of the inside compared to the ball u would use.

Thankfully, I was able to make my own ball hook swivel, and am no more in need to utilize that swivel..
