This looks like a chain link, but that chain looks like it is leaning in a direction chain links don't go. Could it be a hybrid ball & chain swivel? Or just a lot of slop in the swivel? That's Vince Martinez at the helm.

Below is another picture of this type swivel. Dutchman, can you tell us what it is? It looks to me like a ball & socket action combined with a chain link. An odd duck.
