I am a beginner on using a speed bag and was wondering if there is a better bag and swivel that comes with this set for a beginner?

What are your suggestions.

Greetings daniel5455. Welcome to the forum. We love beginners and will be happy to help you.

Is it this speed bag wall set from the sports authority?? (http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1786568&cp=2057738.710957&clickid=topnav_fitness_2&parentPage=category)

If it is, the answer is YES to the bag, and MAYBE to the swivel.

That particular model of Everlast Bag, if it's like the one I have seen displayed in my local Sports Authority outlet, is a low quality vinyl speed bag that is only included to say they have one. You'll be much better served to go ahead and purchase a decent Bag from either Title boxing (http://store.titleboxing.com/titlespeedbags1.html) or Ringside boxing (http://www.ringside.com/DETAIL.ASPX?ID=25256). The size of that Vinyl bag is probably 11x8, so you can stick with that or perhaps a 10x7. The board on that unit is only 24 inches diameter, so you do not want a bag larger than 11x7, and the 10x7 is preferable. Here is why (http://www.speedbagcentral.com/ssp/speed_bag_parts#A).

The swivel in My linked example is not the swivel that is probably included with your unit. I have opened this set several times in retail stores to show the staff that the metal ball hook swivel on the outside picture is NOT what is included-but rather a plastic ballhook (http://store.titleboxing.com/plastic-s-swivel.html), for Everlast stop producing the metal version several years ago. (An argument could be made here about false advertising....:o ).

Most of us (me included) have found this plastic swivel to work very well IF (BIG "IF") you take the time to take this plastic swivel apart and superglue the metal shaft into the plastic ball. You can read more about that here on this link. (http://www.speedbagcentral.com/ssp/speedbag_swivels#A). ( scroll down to the plastic swivel section after clicking).

IF you don't want to use the plastic ballhook then you can try the Metal ballhook from Watkins fitness (http://www.fitness-equipment.com/acatalog/Fitness_Equipment_Speed_bag_Hanging_Systems_30.htm l) (scroll down after clicking) or perhaps the Pro-delux (http://store.titleboxing.com/dps-ez.html) from Title boxing.

Here is a thread about getting and hanging (http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=845) a very similiar board to yours.

Hope this helps.

I have the red vinyl bag that came as a gift kit from one of my daughters. It appears to measure 10 x 7. Although others have complaints about the vinyl bag busting at places, mine has held up very nice and looks very strong. It gives accurate rebounds, holds air nicely and is a good combo of weight with size.

Side by side, it is smaller than the Turbo bag.

My Everlast kit came with the plastic swivel and I glued it to stay in the threading.
