    Speedbag setup upgrade

Hey guys, just found this forum today, I didnt know there was a big following for speed bags.

Anyways today I finally wore out my everlast swivel and it cam apart and the bag smoked me in the face. I have the crappy $60 generic setup [Everlast] So I am thinking about upgrading and buying a wider and thicker board I just have a few questions if anybody could help me.

    1) Looking to spend in the 300-400USD range, I would like a thicker board and a decent wall mount so the board doesnt shake too much. Any recommendations?

    2) The swivel which the bag stays secure and not come off, it looks longer than the regular cheapo swivels I am used to. Is it longer enough that I will notice a difference in swings?

    3) The next day after going on the bag and pumping it up, my bag will always be deflated. Is this a normal thing or is the generic cheapo bag normally like this?

    4) Is the diameter of the board [eg. 24", 36"] just a preference for people or is there good reason to go bigger or smaller?

I will post up a vid of my beginner skills soon enough when I get a new swivel or set up.

    Thanks for any helpful input!

    Welcome to the forum.

Check out Alan Kahn's site for platforms. Also, lots of good info in the Gold Mine section of our forum.

Early on it shouldn't be a problem. Once you get more control and speed, and start working all around the bag, you may want a shorter swivel.

    3) The next day after going on the bag and pumping it up, my bag will always be deflated. Is this a normal thing or is the generic cheapo bag normally like this?
    Most likely a faulty valve.

    4) Is the diameter of the board [eg. 24", 36"] just a preference for people or is there good reason to go bigger or smaller?
Several reasons - size of area where platform is to be secured, cost, size of speed bag.

I will post up a vid of my beginner skills soon enough when I get a new swivel or set up.

    Thanks for any helpful input!

    Looking forward to it.

Welcome, there are many speed bag fanatics, you've found the mother lode We love to discuss every aspect of it , right down to the minute details.

      1) Looking to spend in the 300-400USD range, I would like a thicker board and a decent wall mount so the board doesnt shake too much. Any recommendations?
If I were to buy today, I would get this model (BTW you are entitled to a 15% discount as a member - with that discount its almost in your price range):

It's 1) Rock Solid 2) Adjustable and reason 3) Alan uses one

Need more convincing? Check this out

      2) The swivel which the bag stays secure and not come off, it looks longer than the regular cheapo swivels I am used to. Is it longer enough that I will notice a difference in swings?
You may notice , just use a smaller bag.

      3) The next day after going on the bag and pumping it up, my bag will always be deflated. Is this a normal thing or is the generic cheapo bag normally like this?
Some of my bags lose air over 24 hours, some take 3 days, some take weeks. Luck of the draw, I guess.

      4) Is the diameter of the board [eg. 24", 36"] just a preference for people or is there good reason to go bigger or smaller?
Bigger = heavier, more mass to counteract vibration. The actual diameter is relevant as well if you plan on punching HUGE bags (like 11, 12 or 13 inch). 24" is plenty good for 10x7 and smaller, which are most common, I believe. You want the belly of the bag to strike the board. It will rebound funky if the diameter is too small!

I will post up a vid of my beginner skills soon enough when I get a new swivel or set up.
I sincerely look forward to it. We can give you pointers to help you hit like a pro!

Welcome aboard..I stumbled upon this forum several months ago and it's really helped to put my enthusiasm over the top. Very nice people with a sincere desire to share the wealth. I agree with Tim on Primefighter's SKU-400. Definitely a rock solid lifetime unit as you can tell by Tim's inclusion of Alan Kahn's link. Also Alan's Speedbag bible is a "MUST HAVE" as it's loaded with the best info available. Again, welcome to the forum
