    1st Post

Hi all, just making my first post. I've lurked for a while, and decided register after finally buying my speed bag (picture attached). I bought it for $9.99 used on ebay, size L, looks pretty good to me.

I have a low ceiling in my basement so I'll just be attaching it there to a home-made platform. The only thing that I prefer what I've seen referred to here as the "boxer height" - based on my experience at the gym. My gym has a complete Balazs set up there at that height and boy is it sweet. I Hope to get a set-up like that eventually.

Btw can I still get one of the Powermill swivels I've read about? I looked for Jump Cannon but couldn't find him unless I searched incorrectly. If not can I get another suggestion and contact?

    Thanks ... peace out!

    Thanks for the info Ralph!

I've emailed Jump C. and am also looking to get it coated by RP56. Hopefully he has swivels in stock.

Also, is it normal to hit the bag with no wraps, no gloves? I'm at a solid beginner level (hitting the bag straight back & forth effectively with speed), but will be training some "advanced" moves ... will some type of hand cover be necessary for this?

    Thanks

A lot of people start out with wraps to protect the knuckles, but you'll find here that most everyone winds up going bare knuckle. You really need to "feel" the bag

Thanks for the tip Dutchman. I guess I'll stick with the bare fist style.

Yes, I have heard of Physical Success Speed bags , and have several. I like them.

The company is owned by George Albergo whom I have known for many years. He is a cool guy and very upstanding guy. I wish I could get him to the gatherings. He'd fit right in.

He gets the Speed Bag Bible Book and DVD's directly from me.

Yes. Most all long time speed baggers hit without gloves or wraps. That is more important if you pounding the heavy bag.

Nope. actually, on many of the more complicated or advanced combinations you will find it easier to do them bare handed. As your skills and combinations get more complicated you will have smaller and smaller clearances (spaces) to pull of the combination between your bag, fists and sometimes the board. filling that space with gloved material will not make any of it easier, IMO and may hurt for the material tends to "slip" down the leather surface of the bag more than skin does.

I didn't really believe that until I started trying to do some of the amazing double and triple bumping, shadow punching, upward elbow striking, Skunky elbow, Reverse Direction Front Fist Rolling moves of the more advanced members. Room for clearance is vital.
