Here is a little know fact of speed bag history that is important to recognize. Thanks to our bagging brother, Dr. Michael Astion M.D. for being instrumental in making this happen at The Seattle Childrens Hospital.

The Art of the Bag -

Wow! This is a great article, Alan. I just Googled Dr. Michael Astion and I found this thread you posted on the forum about the doctor back in 2007:
My partner, Raul, is a big believer of the benefits of speed bagging for physical therapy. He also feels the vertical platform is a great tool, especially for treatment for kids suffering from hemiparesis or paralysis. Acquiring a 24" wood round (or square) is easy and and pretty inexpensive, too. And, with a little ingenuity, I think it could easily be made adjustable.
So, Dr. Michael Astion is at Seattle Children's Hospital — he's in my neck of the woods! If you have an email address for him, I would love to contact him, Alan, to share with him about the benefits of the vertical drum. It would be fun to visit the hospital to show the occupational therapists this method of bagging. And, vertical bagging is so easy to pick up. Last month we showed some teenagers who had NEVER touched a speed bag before and they took to it within 5 minutes of showing them the basic punches. The timing is different on a vertical drum, so for the experienced bagger, it actually takes a few minutes longer to catch on.sigpic Contact me anytime for information about Deville Swivels Email: DevilleSwivels@gmail.com
