A new 4213 is in the hizhouse!!!

I broke this out from another thread because I think it is so freaking cool.

It is an old bag, but new to me, and pretty much new condition.

And, I am finding out this bag has a bit of history behind it. I'm still searching the trail, but I'll give you a hint. This was in the eBay tracking info:

    Arrived at USPS Origin Facility
    Dec-19-16, 20:57 PM, BROCKTON, MA 02301

I'll be interested to hear what you dig up on the history. Enjoy the new bag!

Here is what I know so far. I only inquired about the history AFTER winning the auction. The first reply said the seller's father was a semi-pro boxer in the 40's and the bag was part of his collection. Then I noticed the tracking info saying it shipped out of Brockton. So I inquired if the father ever crossed paths with the Brockton Blockbuster. The reply was the father's claim to fame was he once beat Marciano in an amateur fight. An interesting thing was the seller wrote the name as "Rocky? Marciano" as if not sure of the first name. Maybe the father called him Rocco as he was know in the 40's?

I see no motive for the seller to make this stuff up, as this auction was done, and they have no other boxing items up for sale. But people do strange things.

When I bought my old Spalding platform, I was told the father was a boxer in the Navy and on his return, he trained with Jack Dempsey on that very platform!

          Hearsay...makes a great story though....

I once went out with a girl who was a fighter, but I never got to see her box!

In my view, the biggest mistake Everlast ever made was dropping bags such as the 4205 and 4213 from the line up. They are a connection to a former time when things really were made better. I love those bags.

Agreed, but those decisions were made during the time the old company was being sold, the new owners decided to stream line the offerings, and the old reliable "institutional line" was history. Remember those bags were expensive then, the 4205 and 4207 were listed at about $70, the 4213 slightly less. Although you could find them for less occasionally, they were not aimed at a mass market which is the what the new owners wanted to do.

Everlast = will last for a week or two. That 4x11 bag Skunk loved so well fell apart in weeks. I liked that bag too. But the quality sucked.

It's sad when the benchmark of the industry falls off the bench, and can't get back up.

Yep. most of them didn't last long. Probably why it vaporized in a few months.
