That's a "cup style" ball hook... they tend to wear and fall apart, especially the cheap ones.

You'd be better with an Everlast plastic ball hook.

The plastic ones seem to work fine, just as well as the metal. Skunk has demonstrated this on video Plastic may actually be MORE durable than the metal... as the metal wears, the plastic does not. I have the metal ball hooks and mine are perpetually covered with grimy particles of metal. In addition , the metal tend to make more noise, which some people like, some don't. Hitting at the wrong time is usually very noticeable on a metal swivel, as you'll get a loud "clank".

The only add'l advice on the everlast plastic is to use either super glue or thread locker to permanently fix the hook in the ball... otherwise they have a tendency to work themselves loose over time.

When my metal swivels wear out, I'll likely replace them with plastic.

Some people (Skunk and Alan) have been experimenting with hybrid swivels, i.e. using a metal base with the plastic ball or plastic base with the metal ball. Not sure there is an overwhelming advantage there, but they would probably know.

there is a good metal ballhook swivel available called the "Boxing GearĀ® Swivel", shown in that video.

Order it here, from Watkins Fitness. (* scroll down. notice the link to this forum, where the swivel was discussed. ) I like this better than the everlast plastic.
