antique speedbag

I came across(and now own) a unique speedbag that I have not been able to get any info on. It is made mostly of wood with a leather bag that is labled as AJ Reach Co. It is a design I have not seen before and wondered if anyone had and info on it.
See attached photo. I do have more pictures if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

Jon

You've stumped this band. I don't have a clue but it looks like a real piece of ancient speed bag history. Where is the rebound surface?

Have to admit, this is the first of these I've seen. Could be a variation on the Crippen design, using some kind of elastic mount to rebound the bag back at the user, "silently".

How does the bag pivot? Does it move freely in all directions?

x2. Hard to tell how this thing actually works. From that pic, it looks like a "speed bag on a stick"???? I just can't imagine how that works.

more pics of antique speedbag

It seems the wooden swivel is tensioned by an adjustment wingnut in the steel shaft to which it is mounted. There must be a cable which runs down through the wooden platform and rounded swiveling section.

The steel shaft is adjustable, sliding one within another.
