There is currently a pair of Draper Maynard "Lucky Dog" swivels on eBay. These are really old school, from the 1920's-30's . Here's a short history of the firm.

The rope through the ball swivel probably was a Nichols patent swivel, which was the next step up from the rope through the hole in the platform. That setup was prone to cause the bag to wind up causing it eventually start spinning uncontrolably. The Nichols style swivel was a major improvement, leading to the development of the striking bag ne speed bag of today, IMHO. Ah, Dutchman your eye for detail and history still amazes me. The Nichols swivel is on the boards of "the Vegges" at the bottom of this page.
But a while ago you did mention this swivel was on ebay. And I as often do, I bid until I owned it. Here are a few pics a the swivel up close. I am amazed at the tooling and amount of detail that went into this swivel, and basically all equipment from that 1920-40 era. The rope was not included when I purchased this.
I've been meaning to post these and some other equipment I have on SBC, but just haven't got to it yet. Hopefully, I'll soon be a "lucky dog" and this Nichols will have a friend.Last edited by Speedbag; 02-05-2009, 06:55 AM.Speed Bag

Apparently it seems the first swivel was made after Goldsmith purchased the name in 1937. The second one is a much older style and was made in New England. There is a D&M striking bag also on ebay right now, which uses the bladder with the inflation tube you tie off inside. On the same note there is a real cherry Goldsmith Iron Cross bag that is absolutely huge. Unfortunately the bladder is non usuable and the seller has stuffed it with packing peanuts.
