Hi I was wandering if anybody had some tips or workouts for strengthening the neck muscles. And are there any specific workouts that focus on just improving hand speed. mabey punching a certain way a certain amount of times. Thanks.

Here is a good item to strengthen your neck muscles

it's adjustable just add more weight as you get stronger. I made my own years ago and it works great for the hand speed you can use hand weights or the resistance band shadow boxer to build your strength and endurance

Again thanks a lot using the picture you gave me from ringside I made my own. I took an old hat cut two hole around where the ears are about one inch up. then I took a pice of elastic and put the ends through the holes and tied them. For the wieght I took a 10 pound dumbell and just wrapped it in the elastic. I don't really now how it works ( i only did it for two minutes) but it feels like it works the neck again again again thanks a lot

I found that doing situps without supporting your neck/head with your hands gives your neck a good workout. Especially when doing them on a declined bench.

Here are a few animations of neck exercises.

I also use to lay on a flat bench with my head off the end, lay a folded towel over my forehead, then take a 10, 15 or 20 pound dumbell and set it on the towel. Holding the ends of the dumbell to keep it in place, curl your head up and tuck your chin, to flex the neck. At the midpoint you can slow rotate your head sideways a bit, holding the dumbell in place with both hands.

IT also works with a flat weight plate, but the dumbells just seemed easier. It is describe here as "Weighted Neck Flexion" about mid article.

Many, many moons ago, I wrestled in high school.

Back then to strengthen our necks, we would bridge our backs on a padded mat, only being supported by the tops of our head and out feet. We'd do this both "stomach-up" and posterior up. this was done in reps

I always was worried that this could hurt the vertebras in the neck, so if you try this, make sure that there has been no new developments in this medically, and make sure that it is done correctly. I wouldn't want to find out that I'm giving bad advice...

I think it was just called "bridging", if you do a search for it.

EDIT: Looks like Speedbag's link covers it. Never mind.

Do you remember how long it took before you could see and feel results from the bridges?

Good question. It was about at least 12 years ago, so it's hard to recall. Back then it was more about getting through the pain of it all over actually getting better. My record of 9-0 it showed too.

No wait, my record was 0-9.
                        Yeah, I kinda sucked...
