    Neck Injuries & Bench Pressing

Hey everyone, I have an idea that I wanted some outside input on. Do you think having a therapeutic pillow over my bench press head would relieve some tension in my neck & head while I am trying to bench press?

    Thanks, Joe

    You injured your head??!
Don't buy your speed bag from the same place you buy your tackle box.

My general opinion is, Try it and see if it helps. I almost always use some type of cervical support when doing Flat Bench or Inclines. But then again, I don't imagine your neck has the same issues as mine, for mine was surgically altered on several occasions. (3 but who's counting)

Those were the result of a cervical laminectomy, 1999.

There are even products for this, however you can fashion your own with towels or pads.

On the other hand, It never hurts to get your neck evaluated by a medical profession if the pain continues. Lots of "Gym Doctors" will give you all sorts of personal insights about what is causing your neck pain, and what you should do about it, probably based on the last article they read in their favorite muscle rag, but you just may a cervical spine issue that is far beyond their personal opinion to evaluate. As for me, I was getting severe headaches, my neck constantly hurt, and my arms would get numb occasionally. My local "gym doctors" told me to do neck exercises to build it up. Neck X-rays told me different. Yours may be nothing, or it may be the early warnings of a more serious problem.

If you use a pillow or supportive towel, prepare to be questioned about it on the floor. I still get asked.

I would advice you to try one from https://hovement.com/best-pillows-shoulder-pain/ as soon as possible and see whether it doesn't help. I often employ their usage while doing flat bench but I don't wanna assume we have same issues. It never hurts to have a medical check up and ask for a recommendation from a practitioner as well, especially if the tension continues. The pillows I've just recommended you were actually a recommendation from my doc after I had reported a related issue.Again, a pillow would highly help and it's high time you considered one.
