its a bo staff, (like what Donatello uses)
its 1 & 1/8 inches thick and pretty strong.
I only weigh 165 but my friend weighs a little over 200 and although it bends
it never cracks or or anything.
I've been using it with no problems for almost 10 years.
However, a metal bar would suffice.

Thumbs up Spinning Pullup Bar

I have two large beams in my garage about 6 feet apart fixed at the concrete floor and at the rafters. One beam is used to hang my speedbag, and the other my Thai heavy bag. In between these beams I have a 1 and 1/2 inch solid steel bar, over this bar I have a 2 and 1/4 inch steel pipe that spins freely over the bar about 8 feet from the floor.

Needless to say, this setup really works your grip!

Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar is ideal for pull-ups, chin-ups , dips , crunches, and much more.... Its a great way to work on the pull ups at home . Its very easy to put up and takes seconds to take it down.. Its really a good product

I advise you to check a wall mounted pull up bar as this bar is more durable and you can add additional weight on you while doing pull ups. Also, you may be able to do the muscle ups and straight bar dips which is a huge benefit.
