    iZombie Platform (Balazs iBox)

So, this platform is a monster. Well, the drum is. Plus, it's an iBox... hence iZombie. (sounder way cooler in my head)

Graduated from the Everlast "Elite" to a real platform. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the press-board drum. So, I went big (and stayed home) and ordered a 24" John Boos butcher block. It's 4 inches thick and weighs a ton. Well, prolly 50 - 60 pounds at least. Attached to the Balazs steel, it's damn heavy.

Anchored it to my basement wall with Red Head wedge anchors.

Too tired to go through the whole story, or even spell check this post. Here's pictures. Ask questions, I'll respond tomorrow evening or Sunday.

That's a friend of mine in the last pic. He helped hold it up so I could tighten the bolts.

    G'nite!

Comparison of Balazs drum and the boos butcher block:

Used the Balazs drum as a template

1/8th inch holes for the swivel

Used a 1 inch forstner bit for the carriage bolt reliefs

To get the holes to line up, I used a "V drill guide" from Big Gator tools. Worked very well. Those holes were drilled by hand, not on a drill press.

Red Head wedge anchors for the block wall.

    Thick drum

Looks good sitting on the floor

    Looks GREAT on the wall

That is for sure! I meant to weigh it before mounting, but forgot. Estimating it's around 50 pounds.

HOLY BeJeezus that's a big board. must hit dead solid.

Got to admit, the Ibox system does look nice on a wall.

Hits great! I keep forgetting to get a video of it. I took one of the old Everlast Elite platform, and plan to get some of this one just to compare.

Even with it's size, the drum still bounces a bit, but unless you're watching the drum and not the bag, you don't notice it at all.

The old Everlast went to a friend that's helping me with adding lights in the basement. Doing my part to grow the baggin' family.

I'm curious where you think the drum bounce is coming from. Its not gonna be the concrete block wall. And if you have the adjusting screws down as tight as possible, the only likely source is flexing in the square steel tubes that connect the platform to the rails.

I think it's just the flex of the plate that connects it to the tubes. Balazs even has rubber stoppers on each of the tubes to absorb bounce, so I guess it's part of the design.

Like I said, if you're not actually looking for the bounce, you don't notice. I could put weight on top to completely stop it, but I don't even notice unless I have something sitting on top of the drum and it falls on my head.

Finally remembered to get video of the new platform so y'all can hear it, and compare to the old.

Everlast Elite Platform (50# sandbag on top):

Balazs iBox Platform (with big @$$ drum):

Sounds and feels so much more solid.
