Thank you all for the kinds words. It's very encouraging. When I first got "hooked" on speed bagging, I had no idea that my journey would take me where I am today.

First, and foremost, I LOVE speed bagging. I may not have the perfect form or the proper technique, but it doesn't matter. I just love the sound of the bag and swivel, hitting the drum in that mesmerizing rhythm. It truly is medicinal, in my opinion.

My main objective for building swivels was to give fellow speed baggers another option. The big sporting companies have their idea of what a speed bag swivel should look like and how it should perform. And, my partner, Raul and I have our own idea. But, unlike the big manufacturers, we are at a level where we can "change things up" more easily due to the fact that we make our swivel by hand. People will suggest that we use a mold, or CNC the swivel. But, we're not ready to take this step. Not yet. So, for now, we will continue to hand craft them, making it possible to tweak them from time to time to improve their performance. I appreciate ALL the input that I receive from baggers around the world. I am listening. And I take it all in, always open to suggestions to improve the Deville Swivel.

Thanks again, pulpo, Alan, zaza, swfl, for your positive comments. 'Nuff said. Now, it's out to the workshop! Bag on!!

Great post Dee! I wish the world had more people like you thinking similar thoughts. It would be such a nicer and more productive place! I'm ready to try a round one next time you make a batch (I'm a little OCD and need my relaxation equipment shaped just right. I wash my hands a lot too. lol)

I think bagger's are just THAT kind of people! If there are any cinematographers out there like me, be sure to checkout the ZazaSlider camera slider. I also build each one by hand to order, set it up and test it before packing and shipping anywhere in the world. The best thing is, any money I make on these goes to the films I make!

Check it out.... Best slider on the market....please spread the word!

Metal flanged swivels would bend or flatten a bit over time. but I never had one wear enough for the ball to fall out. not yet.

I've been hitting the #13 a lot lately and notice the same wear around the housing. And mine has picked up a mouse somewhere. An unpredictable "squeek", but noticeable. I've tried (1) cleaning it, (2) drops of 3-1 oil, (3) slight hand lotion (worked on past ballhooks), (4) light vaseline.

but it comes back. The action of swivel is fast and accurate, but I can't catch that mouse. yet.

The earlier versions did not have it that I remember.

I also notice that grey sludge, which wipes off pretty easily, but it hasn't killed that demon mouse.
I finally found "that demon mouse" squeek in my Deville swivels. It has nothing to do with the ball. The culprit is the "S" hook movement on the eye-bolt. I noticed this while twisting the bag to have it spin on the hook. The ball sometimes settles into the housing and does not move, but the hook swiveled on the eye and squeeked noticeably. A little further inspection finds this is indeed the area. That is why every possible remedy applied to the ball did not work. It was not the ball in the housing. My swivel squeek case is now closed.

Others may find different issues, but I've got this one on video to prove it. (no audio in picture BUT the video sound clearly has this area as the source.)

I didn't know you were still looking... I found the same thing last month...or I should say Tommy told me that is probably where it's coming from. A spot of oil and goodbye squeak!

I'm gonna try a small spot of duct tape on the "S" side. Dee also says some vaseline on that area may help, but I think oil or vaseline will eventually wear off.

ps: I did put a spot of oil on that area and it quieted the squeek for a three minute song. On take two it was back. onward, duct tape.

The Deville is a Cadillac, a Steinway - smooth as silk, and as quiet as a ball-hook swivel can be.
The metal-to-base contact point will wear a little over time, but it appears to be only cosmetic so far, and hasn't affected performance. Metal swivels will wear at that contact point as well.

Di-Electric grease - silicone based - is clear, clean to handle, and has a long-lasting lubricating effect because of its properties. I prefer it to petroleum-based lubricants (i.e. Vaseline) in this type of application.
It's available at the local auto-parts store. It will eliminate the metal-on-metal squeak.

I got to get me one of these swivels from Dee. Maybe u should add it to my Christmas wish list. The kids are always wanting ideas.
I have a homemade metal ball hook that I wouldn't change for anything. The Deville will go onto my upstairs platform.

As for squeaky swivels, I use a Teflon spray grease. Seems to work great for my swivel.

                        Wd40

I've used WD40's and also bike chain oil lightly with Q-tips.
It lasts for few days. No problems yet.
